Eaton Community Schools

If a student is absent from school, parents/guardians must notify the school office to provide an explanation of the absence.  Notification should be made by 9:15 a.m. to the elementary buildings and by 8:00 a.m. to the middle school and high school. Upon returning to school a written note shall be provided, within five (5) school days, stating the date(s) and the reason for the absence.

Excused Absences

Excused absences are defined as follows:

• Personal Illness
• Quarantine of the home
• Medical, dental, or legal appointments
• Death of a relative
• Needed at home due to absence of parents or guardian
• Observance of religious holidays
• Emergency or set of circumstances which in the judgment of the principal constitutes a good and sufficient cause of absence.

Unexcused Absences

Unexcused absences are issued for those absences occurring for any reason not listed above and may be classified as truant.  Any hours missed beyond the 62 hours (10 days) permitted by parental note will also be counted as unexcused, unless the reason is accompanied by a doctor’s note.
